Liverpool vs PSV: Three Losses from Three For Arne Slot
Written by Leo Manuel on 27th November 2025
Liverpool made it three losses in a row, falling 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven at Anfield. They have lost 9 games this season in all competitions after just 19 games. This matches how many losses they had all last season.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool sits 12th in the league after 12 games with 18 points, and 13th in the Champions League table, which is only good enough for a playoff spot.
Yesterday, it all went wrong for Liverpool as they conceded a penalty after just 6 minutes when captain Virgil Van Dijk handled the ball from a corner. Ivan Perisic of PSV then put the penalty away to give the Dutch side a lead at Anfield. Dominik Szobozlai gave Liverpool a lifeline as he equalized after a Cody Gakpo shot was saved by PSV keeper Matej Kovar, but it fell to Szobozlai, who was unmarked in the box.
PSV retook the lead in the second half when Guus Til scored his first Champions League goal after he got in front of his man in the box and finished well past the Liverpool keeper. In the 70th minute, Couhaib Driouech came on from the bench for PSV and scored after being on the pitch for only three minutes, after Ibrahim Konate missed an interception, and Ricardo Pepi saw his shot bounce off the post and land at the feet of Driouech. PSV sealed the game in the 91st minute as they broke quickly, and Sergino Dest got into the box and pulled the ball back to the edge, and Driouech finished low to Giorgi Mamardashvili’s left.
This result means Liverpool are just three points ahead of the cut-off for the Champions League playoffs with three games left to play. They still have to travel to Inter Milan and Marseille and play host to Qarabag, who sit just two points behind them.
Liverpool hope they get out of this bad run of form as they face West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds in their next three games.
Is Arne Slot in danger of the sack?
Arne Slot currently finds his side 12th in the league after 12 games, the last Liverpool manager to face the sack was Brenden Rodgers in 2015 when his side sat in 10th position. Although Rodgers had his team in a better league position, he had not won a trophy during his tenure at the club, whereas Slot won the Premier League in his first season with the club.
In the Summer transfer window, Liverpool splashed the cash to sign Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni as well as two backup keepers in Freddie Woodman and Armin Pesci for a combined £700k. Slot’s transfers added up to a whopping £400 million with both Wirtz and Isak being over £100 million, their cheapest signing was Leoni who has only featured once for them. They have also lost a few key players from last season with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid, Caoimhin Kelleher going to Brentford, Jarell Quansah moving to Bayer Leverkusen, Luis Diaz going to Bayern Munich and Darwin Nunez going to the Saudi Pro League.
Spending £400 million in the summer transfer window after winning the league the year prior and starting the season with seven straight wins, it looked like Liverpool where going to be unstoppable, until they faced Crystal Palace in the League and since then they have recorded three wins from 12 games.
Is Arne Slot in danger of getting sacked? Yes, undoubtedly he is after a poor run of form, but will he be sacked? No, he had been given £400 million to spend meaning the board trusts him to get the results.
