Spark is a 24/7 community radio station run by volunteers and this website is powered by Journalism students at the University of Sunderland. Our radio station is regulated by OFCOM and we have certain objectives to achieve on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

What do we need from you if you apply to volunteer? We like to embrace a diverse environment and welcome people from all walks of life particular those from underrepresented backgrounds. We ask that you put the audience first, have a can-do attitude, are self-motivated, believe in yourself, are passionate about Sunderland (or willing to dive in to the City life), have integrity, are consistent in your offer to us, respect our leadership team, work well both alone and in a team, contribute positively to our culture and are generally a nice friendly person. We also require you to understand compliance relating to radio and journalism and we will support you with that. Anyone joining the radio team will be required to sit our compliance training.

Spark is one of the most exciting hobbies you could have. One day you might be interviewing Doris from Seaburn about anti-social behaviour and the next day you could be at a festival chatting to Sigala. You can be under-18 to be part of our team but we ask that you have a responsible adult with you at all times.

We are not currently recruiting new volunteers at the moment. However, feel free to fill in our sign-up form and we will contact you when we are recruiting.
