South Shields Football Club recently played host to a vibrant fusion of football and culinary delights at their stadium, the 1st Cloud Arena to raise money for charity.
On Friday, May 3rd, fans gathered to partake in the inaugural event named ‘Around the world in 90 minutes’, organised by the International Academy at South Shields FC.
The event was organised to support ‘Children’s Cancer North’, a charity dedicated to making life better for children with cancer in Cumbria and the North East. It also raised funds for the medical treatment of Arthur Salter-Hoult and Dale Sullivan, both of whom are living with rare forms of the disease.
Aaron Burns, who helps with the operations at the International Academy explained the event: “We created an event called ‘Around the World in 90 Minutes,’ where we invited local food vendors from all cuisines around the world to come down and set up their stalls at the football club.
“This allowed the fans to enjoy a good game of football while also indulging in some international cuisine.”
The Local food vendors present were ‘Thai Thai Kitchen’ from Sunderland, the North East bakery ‘Dickson’s’, the South Shields ‘Potting Shed’ offering coffee and cake, ‘Gyros’ selling Greek food and ‘Kets N Pop’ selling sweets for those with a sweet tooth.
Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Isrrael Morales, a football player of the International Academy, expressed, “It was an absolute honour, always a good feeling when you get to play on the pitch, in front of everyone, it’s something you dream of growing up and obviously an event to help charity is always an amazing thing to do.
The friendly match played by the International Academy served as the centerpiece of the evening’s entertainment. Morales added, “Hopefully we put on a good show for the spectators to come out and enjoy. We really appreciate everyone who did come out to support us.”
