Eurovision 2022: Emma Muscat – I Am What I Am Review
Written by Callum Rowe on 15th March 2022
Emma Muscat has finally settled on I Am What I Am as her song for Eurovision. The dithering and delay in finalising her entry has been worth the wait.
From the opening seconds of the track it’s easy to see what it will end up delivering at the chorus. Through the verse and pre-chorus there’s a super predictable build but the pay off isn’t any less rewarding.
Reaching the chorus the song comes alive. The gospel backing vocals on the track play perfectly off the happy pop beat to give I Am What I Am an infectiously feel-good vibe.
A message of empowerment is carried throughout the lyrics and in the melody itself. Yes it’s predictable but I Am What I Am will likely put a smile on your face and make you want to move.
