Written by on 1st October 2021

A new music festival, Waves, is coming to Sunderland this winter. Waves is set to bring local artists together for a jam-packed day of concerts.

The line-up has been organised by Independent and Dent Records, celebrating some of the regions best talent. The Waves lineup has artists from a variety of genres. 10 acts have already been announced including Indie-pop band Club Paradise, pop-punk band Bigfatbig and gritty lyricist Philth Like.

Waves festival boasts multiple venues, with concerts taking place across five different bars, pubs and clubs in Sunderland. Some of the local venues involved are The Peacock, Independent, and The Ship Isis.

University of Sunderland’s President of Activities Chris Davison said: “Events like this push for things to rebuild, and hopefully if this event is a success it will promote more live music events in the future.” With many venues in the city unable to reopen after the coronavirus pandemic, it’s easy to see why events like this are trying to bring back the Sunderland music scene.

The event is one of the first of its kind in the city since the pandemic, hoping to bring the live music scene back to the city. Chris Davison added: “Sunderland had a strong night time economy before the pandemic and events like this are needed to breathe life back in to the nighttime scene.”

The Waves music festival takes place Saturday November 6th, with tickets available online from Independent.
