University of Sunderland students have had their work selected to be shown at a local art gallery over the next few months.

The Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art (NGCA) have announced that it has been working with local Fine Art students over the last six months to develop a new exhibition showcasing each artists’ own unique styles.

The NGCA described the collaboration as “monumental” on its Instagram post announcing the event.

The exhibition runs from October 25 2025 to February 14 2026. The gallery is open to view the display from 10am to 5pm every day except Sunday, and entry to the exhibition is free.

One of the artists whose artwork will be displayed at the exhibition, Steviee Brookes, reacted to the news: “Having my work up in the NGCA of all places was very proud moment and a screech of joy had took place.”

They further explained that the opportunity meant a lot to them because their grandfather had taken them to watch glass blowing demonstrations at the NCGA glass centre since they were a child.

Their display is named “My Favourite Colour is You“, and includes a collection of Polaroid photographs turned into Prussian blue prints through the use of a cyanotype process. This is a method that uses negative images to creative positive white and blue visuals.

Steviee explained that when organising the exhibition, the curator Jonathon Weston suggested the idea of having the small Cyanotype next to the massive march contrails to create a size difference and a more striking effect.

The focus of their artwork were photographs of themselves and their fiancé during their first summer together, with Steviee saying that they decided to create this piece because: “My favourite colour is Prussian blue and my favourite person in the world is my fiancé.”
