Adrian Newey is the new Aston Martin Team Principle for 2026 season

After joining the Silverstone based team earlier this season, Newey has been given the opportunity to step up from his typical role of Managing Technical Partner to become a Team Principal for the first time in his 45 year career.
Although Newey will be the Team Principle next year, he is still going to continue his work with the engineering side of the team, merging his Managing Technical Partner role with his new found power of being a Team Principle.

Current Aston Team Principle, Andy Cowell, will bow out of the role to make room for Newey, but he will still remain in the team as Chief Strategy Officer.
These changes were announced on Wednesday by Aston Martin’s Executive Chairman, Laurence Stroll, to the team based in the Aston Martin Aramco Technology Campus (AMRTC).
It was announced in September 2024 that Newey would be moving from Red Bull to Aston Martin during the 2025 season after an almost two decade stint with the team.
Newey originally stopped his development on the Red Bull F1 cars in May 2024, but couldn’t officially leave the team and begin work for Aston Martin until the following March, just in time to start the preparations for the 2026 season.
It is believed his departure from Red Bull was due to the instability Christian Horner and the ongoing investigation into him was causing throughout the team.
Aston Martin are predicted to be one of the front-running teams over the next few years due to their recent partnership with Honda to use their engines and their signing of ex-Red Bull staff, now including Newey.
With the regulation changes coming up next season and the introduction of the Manual Override Mode (MOM) to replace DRS, Newey’s brilliant engineering mind will play a vital role in the team’s development into next season.
