North East woman starts a mental health group after being diagnosed with breast cancer

A woman from South Shields has started to unite women who are struggling with mental health.

According to the NHS, one in every four adults has at least one diagnosable mental health problem at any given year.

Angela Reay, the creator of the group, said: “I thought I was fine.

“All of a sudden I was hit with depression, and was crying all the time.”

She formed the group Chilln ‘N Spilln in March this year in the hopes of bringing together others who are experiencing hardships and feeling lonely.

Angela was diagnosed in November 2022 and understands the feeling of having nobody to talk to. She said: “No one should be lonely, we need to be coming together as women, a community, united, to talk about our problems and issues.”
