Sunderland’s brand-new 10k race is set to be held in Roker on Sunday, November 23.
The run is being brought to the beachfront by events organiser RunThrough, in support of the charity Children’s Cancer North.

November’s 10k will be RunThrough’s first ever event in Sunderland, with the course starting at the iconic Roker beach, spanning the scenic promenade, and ending with a lap of the historic Roker Park.
Race director Chris Parr said: “With over 2,000 runners expected, full road closures, and a beautiful coastal route starting and finishing right by the sea, it’s set to be a fantastic day for both seasoned runners and first-timers alike.
“It’s great to be adding another North East event to our growing portfolio, alongside the Newcastle 10k, Middlesbrough Half and the upcoming Newcastle Gateshead Marathon in the new year. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to what promises to be a brilliant new fixture in the local running calendar.”

RunThrough has previously hosted hundreds of similar races across the UK since 2013, with over 400k participants and 300 events per year. Newcastle hosted a race of the same length last January, bringing together runners of all ages and abilities, and is hosting another 10k event in January 2026.
Atlanta Austin, 26, is a Roker local and one of the thousands of runners taking to the coast for the race. She said: “I started running a year ago, specifically buggy running after having my second baby.
“I’m running with a buggy pushing a three-year-old and a one-and-a-half-year-old. I’ve trained with the buggy but only ever ran races solo so this will be my first actual race with both of my babies.”

The race is in support of Children’s Cancer North, an independent charity that supports individuals and charities affected by childhood cancer across the North East and Cumbria, invests in revolutionary research and raises awareness for children’s cancer.
Entries for the race start from £32 and can be purchased via the RunThrough website.
