Cheick Tiote completes the Premier League’s biggest comeback.

Football fans could be forgiven for leaving the ground early when their team is losing 4-0 at halftime. St James’ Park however was full for the second half.

The fans were rewarded for their loyalty with a comeback for the ages seeing Newcastle claw back a draw against the odds.

Cheick Tiote finished the comeback off in style with a volley from outside the box.

An emotional goal for Jonas Gutierrez and for Newcastle

With 11 games left in the 2014/15 Premier League Season, Newcastle looked set for a comfortable mid-table finish sitting in 11th place.

Nine losses in their next ten games put their top flight status in doubt however. Heading into the last game of the season, Newcastle knew they might be going down with another loss.

Up stepped Jonas Gutierrez to deliver a massive goal that ensured a 2-0 win for Newcastle and top flight survival.

The goal was especially sentimental for Gutierrez who had recently survived a fight with cancer to continue playing football.

Newcastle Secure Champions League qualification

A 0-0 draw doesn’t usually offer much excitement, but on the 22nd of May, 2023, it meant everything to the Newcastle United faithful.

The draw ensured that for the first time since the 2002/03 season, Newcastle would be playing in the Champions League group stage.

It was a remarkable turnaround for the magpies who had spent most of the previous season in the relegation zone.

Chants of “Geordies, in the Champions League” could be heard around St James’ Park as fans celebrated the occasion.

First Wear-Tyne Derby in Eight Years

When Sunderland were drawn against Newcastle United in the 2023/24 FA Cup, the whole country was gripped with excitement.

The two clubs had not played each other since the 2015/16, the last time they were both in the same league.

This meant that the two rivals could only play each other if they were drawn together in a cup competition.

In front of a sold-out Stadium of Light, the atmosphere was electric.
