Inside the Magic of Newcastle Christmas Markets: Food, Finds, and Festive Fun
Written by Jaden Dytham on 14th December 2025
November 15 saw the return of the iconic Christmas markets in Newcastle Upon Tyne, with stalls spreading from Grey Street to Old Eldon Square, it brings together local artisans, festive flavours, and a cosy atmosphere.
The market is performing extremely well, with Eldon Square reporting a 9% increase in footfall from the previous year – with vendors based within 20 miles of the town centre, the city is keeping the North Eastern products prominent.
With the event running from Saturday, November 18 – Tuesday, December 23, NE1’s Christmas celebrations don’t just end at the markets – with ice skating at the Centre For Life and ‘Enchanted City’ at Northumbria University Campus to name a few. The celebrations stretch to New Years Eve, with ‘Howaymanay’ at Newcastle Quayside, a firework event that turns the chilly Quayside into a party village.
I asked some of the market goers what they thought of the event this year.
Lucy Bailey said: “The Christmas markets this year have such a warm feel about them, it’s such a contrast to the rest of town with its ‘Christmassy’ feeling that just makes everyone happy. It literally sells anything so nobody can go to the markets and come away being disappointed.”
Debbie Kidd said: “I love that there is so many varieties of stalls, different cultures and types of food. I love how the areas are cordoned off so you feel quite safe. It’s family friendly as well, the last few years we’ve gone, they’ve catered for families in terms of the rides and opportunities for photobooths and other things.”
Newcastle’s Christmas Market remains a festive fan favourite once again, drawing in tens of thousands of customers each year, and spreading the joy of Christmas to everyone who attends.
