How can we protect wildlife? – You can get involved in The Wildlife Trusts

Climate change is a global issue that affects not only humans but also animals. The World Economic Forum highlights the strong connection between climate change and rising sea levels, stating: “Climate change is the primary driver of global sea level rise.”

They explain further: “As the Earth’s temperature increases, polar ice caps and glaciers melt, releasing vast amounts of water into the oceans. This melting ice directly contributes to rising sea levels.”

These changes threaten animal habitats, forcing polar bears to stay on land for longer periods and causing walruses to lose their homes.

The Wildlife Trusts, a grassroots movement, believes in the interconnectedness of people and nature: that people need nature, and nature needs them. Each Wildlife Trust operates as an independent charity focused on wildlife conservation. They encourage individuals to take action for wildlife, restore natural environments, and combat the climate crisis. You can find a Wildlife Trust near you and get involved in its activities.

Durham Wildlife Trust is actively engaged in conserving wildlife across the region, from the Tees to the Tyne. The organization runs various projects and inspires people to connect more closely with nature.

One of its key initiatives, Community Conservation, encourages individuals to participate in nature research, habitat monitoring, and skill-building through opportunities provided at its nature reserves. The collected data helps highlight the richness of local wildlife, foster care for nature preservation, and inspire community involvement. These reserves support a diverse range of species and habitats, including those of both national and international significance.
