The Active Sunderland BIG 3k Run is an annual event held in Sunderland, which encourages people of all ages and abilities to get active and enjoy the outdoors.
The event is organized by Sunderland City Council and attracts participants from across the region, as well as from further afield.
The run takes place in the heart of Sunderland, with the route starting and finishing at Keel Square in the city centre. The route takes in some of Sunderland’s most iconic landmarks, including the Stadium of Light, the Wearmouth Bridge, and the historic Sunderland Minster.
The course is relatively flat, making it accessible to runners of all abilities, and is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs.
The event is open to individuals and teams, and participants can run, jog, or walk the three kilometers distance. The focus is on participation rather than competition, and the emphasis is on having fun and enjoying the experience. Participants are encouraged to wear fancy dress or costumes, and there are prizes for the best-dressed individuals and teams.
The event is supported by a range of local businesses and organisations, and there is a festival atmosphere throughout the day. There are food and drink stalls, live music, and entertainment, making it a fun day out for all the family.
The Active Sunderland BIG 3k Run is a great way to get active, enjoy the outdoors, and be part of a community event. It is suitable for people of all ages and abilities, and provides a fun and supportive environment to achieve personal fitness goals.
