Dates have been confirmed for Newcastle’s Christmas market which is expected to be the biggest one yet.

The market is set to take place from November 19 to December 23 where visitors will be able to find traders from around the region selling everything from bratwurst to cheese.

The market has been extended with stalls running up Grainger Street, up to the top of Grey Street whilst also remaining in Old Eldon Square.

Grainger Market will play host to Santa’s Grotto and a series of special events every Sunday starting on November 27.

Newcastle City Council have partnered up with NE1, a Business Improvement District, to bring festive cheer to the area.

Stephen Patterson, chief executive of NE1 Ltd, said: “Every year, Newcastle’s Christmas offer improves and evolves and I am delighted that we continue to build on what was achieved last year.”

He added: “The festive offer, including the Grainger Market and the extended Christmas outdoor market will be fantastic for the city, businesses, residents and visitors alike.”

Some key events over the next couple of months will be the Christmas Light switch-on set for November 15, the Lighting of the Bergen Tree (TBA) and the show-stopping Laser Light City planned for December 30.

Quayside market will continue every Sunday for even more independent stalls selling products perfect for Christmas.

Coun Lesley Storey, cabinet member for a vibrant city, said: “This year, more than ever we are keen to spread some positivity at a time when so many people are struggling.”

She added: “We want to be able to lift everyone’s spirits and hopefully create a sense of wellbeing during these challenging times.

“We hope the events we have planned will light up our city in more ways than one.”
