Spark have received 16 nominations at 2022’s Student Radio Awards.

The nominations were announced this weekend, with Spark taking away the joint-most number of nominations out of all featuring stations, including Best Student Radio Station.

Station Manager Richard Berry said: “I think this is the most nominations we’ve ever had, which considering the year we’ve had is an amazing achievement.

“There are some incredible shows and people nominated and to see the Spark name pop in multiple times in the same category is even more amazing. It’s easy to forget that Spark runs 24/7 and so our team were putting together these entries whilst planning their next show!”

Spark’s nominations span across 11 different award categories, with Spark representing half of the Best Presenter category.

James Rowe, who spent the previous year as Spark’s Head of Programming, said: “Spark is run entirely by volunteers so its an even more incredible achievement to see so many nominations bearing our station name. We understand what our audience wants, and we’ve clearly proven that we are in touch with our listeners, delivering them entertaining and informative content day after day.

“There’s no station this year that has received more nominations than Spark, and we’re crossing our fingers for them to turn into award wins in London next month.”

It comes in a special week for Spark as the station celebrates their 13th birthday, having started broadcasting as Spark back in October 2009.

Berry continued: “Although Spark is 13 years old this week, we ran short term stations at least once a year before that and the first of those was 25 years this November. Seeing our team pick up some awards would be the icing on the cake and real testament to their commitment but also that of all the people who’ve been part of our team over the 25 years – some of whom are now working in the radio industry and will be in attendance at the O2.”
