WHO ARE THE PLAYERS THAT HAVE MANAGED TO TURN CHELSEA IN TO A CONTENDER THIS SEASON?

Chelsea is a team that has been flying recently after thrashing the mighty Barcelona and securing their place towards the top of the Premier League, keeping four clean sheets in their last five games and scoring no less than 11 goals. The question is who are the standout players behind this new-found success?  

5. ROBERT SANCHEZ (GK)

The Chelsea goalkeeper who has been under his share of scrutiny by the Chelsea fans has really managed to turn it around this season, especially in recent games after managing to keep four clean sheets in his last four games. Sanchez has also been pivotal with his crucial saves but more than anything his dominance of the box at set pieces has been vital in defending set plays plus his much-improved playing out from the back has led to more safety and smoother transitions from defence to attack.  

4. REECE JAMES(RB/CDM) (C)

After having to deal with gruelling injuries that led to the talented England international missing out long parts of past seasons it looks that’s all behind him now with a newfound level of fitness, the level of quality the Chelsea skipper possesses has become even more evident for everyone to witness. In the last few games, it has been clear for everyone to see how much importance the Cobham graduate brings to the side through his experience and excellent ability to play both in midfield and in at right back.

3. ENZO FERNANDEZ (CM/CDM)

The Argentinian player has managed to elevate his level this season and as with most players is really pushing to a new limit in the last few games. The 24-year-old has been pivotal in running the Blues midfield and linking the defence to attack through his high intensity press and incisive passing. The Chelsea midfielder has been key to unlocking opposition defences and providing vital goals and assists, all this made possible through his high intensity approach to the game.

2. ESTEVAO (RW)

There are few words that can sum up this 18-year old’s brilliance – from smashing records for the Brazilian national team to being a difference maker in the Champions League. The Chelsea winger is nothing less than a player that is generational. A dazzling display against Barcelona has made sure that he is on everyone’s radar with the ability to change a game with his directness and tricky feet. He is the worst nightmare for any full back, with this being only the beginning for what is to come and the terror he will cause for opposition.  

1. CUCURELLA (LB)

A player that has slipped under the radar for way to long. One of the best left-backs in world football, Cucurella is a manager’s dream player with relentless work ethic. He provides major support in the attack, causing chaos whenever he delivers balls into the box  and providing huge goals for the team. Cucurella is a player that manages to elevate his game with each coming season becoming even more versed at neutralising opposing wingers such as the world’s best Lamine Yamal. Cucurella was named as man of the match against Barcelona – showcasing just how much he can be the difference in the game for Chelsea.
