Goals from Jobe Bellingham and Wilson Isidor against Derby County yesterday have placed Sunderland on top of the Championship league table.
After the 1-2 loss against Watford on Saturday, Sunderland were third, but yesterday’s 2-0 win put them closer to the Premier League.
The Black Cats are on a dream start under new head coach Regis Le Bris, winning all four opening home matches.
Jobe (40′) treated the Mackems to a spectacular 25-yard shot to register the first goal of the game at the Stadium of Light.
“I think my all round game has definitely improved from last year,” Jobe said in a post-match interview.
“One part that was missing for me was arriving in the box. I wanna keep scoring goals. But I am really glad I can help the team in other departments as well.”

The Frenchman Isidor, who found a spot in Le Bris’ starting XI due to an injury to mainstay Eliezer Mayenda, repaid the trust by scoring at the 55th minute.
New man Ian Poveda debuted in front of his home fans, coming in as a substitute for Patrick Roberts at the 74h minute. He stayed on the pitch for only 11 minutes before sustaining an injury and got substituted off at the 85th.
Sunderland’s next match is on Friday (October 04) at home against Leeds United. Burnley and West Brom, who are second and third respectively, play their next fixtures on Saturday, so Sunderland will stay on top until at least then.
Yesterday The Stadium of Light also stayed true to its name by hosting its inaugural flashing spotlight show. According to a statement released by the club “the light show is to be utilised for all evening fixtures moving forward, including Friday’s fixture”.
The club has requested spectators with photosensitive disorders to avoid the light show which will conclude as the players enter the field.
