Sunderland dog walkers face fines as beach bans come into force

Written by on 10th May 2023

Sunderland dog walkers could face on-the-spot fines of £100 if they are caught walking their dogs on prohibited sections of Roker and Seaburn beaches, after annual bans came into force earlier in the month.

The bans, which see dogs prohibited from parts of the two beaches, will run until the end of September and are introduced in a bid to protect the city’s beaches from dog fouling and anti-social behaviour over the summer months, while they are at their busiest.

Last year 138 fines were handed out between May and September, but warning signage is in place along the coastline promenades to give people prior warning.
