Team Sunderland defeated York St John to win the David Fleming Cup

Team Sunderland made it back-to-back Varsity wins, following on from their TeesWear Varsity victory, as they overcame the visiting York St John in the Clash of the Minsters.
The two university teams competed in a wide range of sporting competition, where Team Sunderland dominated the day and, in the end, won impressively emphatic.
Fixtures were held all over the city, with football taking place at the Ford Quarry Football Hub, netball at CitySpace, cricket at the Beacon of Light, plus much more.
Harvey Hinkler, SportByte editor and staff player, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic, the Varsity, for both staff and students, as an institution we get to put on something that students can come to”.

CitySpace also was the location for Team Sunderland’s celebrations, where the atmosphere was bouncing as the hosts were read out as runaway winners.
