Blyth Spartans legend Robbie Dale scores final club goal in Northumberland Senior Cup final thriller

Blyth Spartans record appearance maker, Robbie Dale, scored his final goal for the club in the Northumberland Senior Cup final on Thursday, 5 May.

The goal, scored directly from a corner; coupled with an assist, in the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United u23’s earned Dale the Man of the Match Award.

Sado Djalo headed the Spartans in front of JJ O’Donnell’s cross before Dale would steal the limelight as his heroics led the Spartans to victory.

Dale lined up a corner on the 23rd minute, which found its way into the back of the net.

Just ten minutes later, he had the ball at the corner flag again this time picking; out captain Nathan Buddle to head the Spartans into a 3-0 lead.

It was Dale’s 720th appearance for the club, with his 220th goal being his last in a Spartans shirt. The 37-year-old made his last appearance just 48 hours later in a 2-2 draw with Gloucester.

‘Robbiedinho’ first donned the green and white on March 15th 2005, with the then 20-year-old netting a hat-trick against Wakefield on his debut.
