Newcastle RedBulls’ Christian Wade made history by equalising the record for Prem rugby trys.
The winger’s try in the game against Sale Sharks saw him equal the all-time Prem try record, matching Chris Ashton’s record of 101.
Wade had a flying start to the season scoring six times across four games, his hat-trick in their previous fixture against Exeter Chiefs meant he became only the second player to reach 100 trys.
He could claim the title of most Prem trys in the next game away at Saracens this weekend.

Newcastle RedBull fan Simon Wall said: ” To score 101 trys and match Chris Ashton’s long-standing mark is a remarkable achievement.
“Every time Wade gets the ball, you feel like something can happen. He’s been one of the most exciting players of the Prem era, and it’s great to see him continuing his try-scoring with the RedBulls.”
Friday’s result 17-3, was the first Gallagher Prem win for Newcastle Redbulls of the season, sitting them above Exeter and Harlequins in the table.
RedBulls’ forwards coach Micky Ward said: “RedBull have stated many times they are here for the long term and things aren’t built over night.
“The goal is to be the best rugby team in the world but we know this won’t happen over night, lots of teams in the world have been together for a long time and have great players so we need to work hard on our connections and keep developing as a team.
“We want to play a brand of rugby that is very entertaining and understand results might take a while but we are confident that the talent we are attracting an the environment we are creating this will definitely transfer into results.”
Wade started his career in the 2010-11 season at London Wasps, where he stayed until 2018 scoring a total of 82 trys for them in the Gallagher Prem in his eight year stint at the club.
After four years in the NFL with Buffalo Bills Wade joined Racing 92 in 2022 before transferring back to Prem rugby to play for Gloucester in the 2024-25 season.
Returning to rugby union Wade signed with RedBulls in December 2025, he has scored 8 try in the Gallagher Prem allowing him to break history.
