Former Durham Cricket head coach Ryan Campbell has taken up a new role as director of cricket and high-performance coaching at the club.
It follows the club’s outstanding performances in the County Championship this season, as they claimed the Division Two title with games to spare, having finished unbeaten.
Campbell – who joined Durham in 2023 – led the side to promotion in his first season with the club.
Durham suffered relegation back to Division Two in 2025 before bouncing straight back this campaign.
The club says his new role will entail being responsible for the club’s overall cricketing strategy, as well as overseeing the men’s and women’s squads and the club’s talent pathway.
It is the role vacated this summer by Marcus North, who left to take up a post within the England and Wales Cricket Board as head selector within the England team.
Campbell will be among those leading the search for his successor ahead of the club’s return to Division One next summer.
“We felt every bit of the pain when we were relegated, and this year we answered that the right way by winning Division Two,” Campbell told Durham Cricket’s official website.
He added: “Moving into the Director of Cricket and High Performance Coaching role isn’t stepping back, it’s a chance to keep shaping the direction of this club, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Durham’s season ended with a draw with Lancashire last week to ensure they went the season without losing a First Class game.
The new season is set to get underway in early Spring next year.
