Body found in search for Northumberland man

A body has been found in Ponteland after a search for a missing 66-year-old.
The missing man, named by police only as Stuart, was seen leaving his home in the village between 1.45pm and 2pm on Tuesday (September 29) and reported missing shortly after.
The police launched extensive inquiries to find him, and a body was then discovered by Northumbria Police late on Tuesday evening, a short distance from Stuart’s last known location.
“I’d like to thank the officers involved in the searches, our partner-agencies for their assistance and those in the community who shared information with us,” said Inspector Aaron Parsons.
While formal identification is yet to take place, Stuart’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving support.
“Our thoughts are firmly with Stuart’s loved ones at this difficult time,” Insp Parsons said.
Police currently have no suspicions of foul play or third-party involvement, and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
“We’d like to request the family’s privacy is respected at this time,” the Inspector added.
While there has been a drop in missing people in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, it is still a regular occurrence. According to Northumbria Police, an average of 218 people per week were reported missing between 2024 and 2025.
