Silksworth fireworks cause shockwaves in the Sunderland area with residents calling for the juveniles to be named and shamed

Fireworks were set off at Silksworth Ski Slope by a group of children, with the council warning of tenancy risks to the children’s parents.

The teenagers were holding rocket fireworks and firing them at people on the ski slope – luckily, no one was harmed.

Some Silksworth residents have made their feelings known on Facebook under a post regarding the incident. One person said: “It was good that action was being taken and it’s now time to clean up the rest who run riot elsewhere.”

Another person added: “They should name and shame those involved.”

Northumbria Police have said they are aware of the footage and will be finding out the details of the teenagers involved.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of video footage showing teenagers setting off fireworks in the Silksworth Ski Slope area of Sunderland.

“The incident is believed to have taken place about 6pm on Monday (September 29) evening.

“No one is reported to have been injured.

“We have been working alongside our partner organisations to identify those responsible, including reviewing CCTV, while we have also increased patrols in the area.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police, quoting reference number NP-20251001-0358.

West Sunderland Community Page also put this statement out about the incident online: “The individuals in the attached video have already been identified. Enforcement action is underway and may include tenancy consequences for parents/guardians.

Proactive patrols are being carried out this week to prevent further incidents and hold those responsible to account.
