Peter Darrant: Chair of Out North East
Out North East, an LGBTQ+ charity which celebrates pride in Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead, are set to bring three months of festivals to celebrate Pride in the region, kicking off in Sunderland in June.
The celebrations, which begin in Sunderland on 7 June and come to an end in Gateshead on August 30, have been a tradition of the North East for two years, and will include over 65 free to attend events that are open to everyone.
Peter Darrant, chair of Out North East, spoke on the events that will be taking place across the region and specifically in Sunderland, such as a takeover of The Bridges and a family picnic.
He hopes that over 1000 people will be taking part in one of the city’s key events, the Pride in Sunderland March on June 28, where attendees will “march through the city, be proud, be loud, be queer and be our true authentic selves.”
