Eddie Howe’s nephew Andy leaves Newcastle United

Written by on 22nd September 2026

Andy Howe has left his role as senior football executive at Newcastle United after more than five years at the club.

Andy was influential in many transfer windows during his time at Newcastle United, with some of his most notable signings being Sandro Tonali and Malick Thiaw.

He joined the club shortly after Eddie Howe, Andy’s uncle, following the takeover by the Saudi Public investment fund (PIF)

He was then promoted from the head of first-team technical scouting to assistant head of first team recruitment in 2024.

The work Howe did at Newcastle did not go unnoticed, with fan and journalist Joel Bland telling us “Internally, I believe Andy was rated quite highly, particularly within Premier League recruitment circles. He did a lot of good work during his time at Newcastle and was heavily involved in the Sandro Tonali deal, which I think was probably one of the best examples of the work he did behind the scenes.”

However, the opinion of large sections of the fanbase was different, with Joel telling us: “There was always a fair bit of scepticism from sections of the fanbase because of his relationship with Eddie Howe. As well as it being “difficult for some supporters to judge him purely on the work he was actually doing behind the scenes”.

The senior football executive took the decision to step down after a summer of change at the club, with Eddie Howe, leaving the club and being replaced by Matthias Jaissle as well as head of recruitment, Steve Nickson leaving United to become sporting director at Wrexham.

Andy’s depature also cuts the last of former boss Eddie howe’s ties to the club, officially ending the most successful era in the clubs history.
