Primark Metrocentre is getting a makeover with a 14,100 square foot extension.
The store, located in Anchoring Exhibition Square, is to take over unused space previously owned by Argos. The extension open date is to be confirmed this summer.
Conor Walsh, Director of Sales UK commented: “We are excited to be extending our popular Gateshead Metrocentre store to give our customers more of what they love from Primark.
“We can’t wait for our customers to see the extended selling space, giving them even more reasons to visit.”
Officials across different sectors welcome the news.
Ben Cox, Senior Asset Manager at Sovereign Centros (a real estate asset and development management business) said: “Delivering this now is a direct response to what our visitors want from Metrocentre.”
Much like Zara and Frasers Group, Primark is the next Metrocentre store to get a revamp.
Cox states the major changes are “made possible by decades of strong performance”.
The extension follows a £10 million investment in Primark across the UK. New stores are also to be opened, resulting in 195 collective shops in the country and an estimated 700 jobs.
UK Retail Director at Primark, Kari Rodgers, commented the investment means “bigger and better stores, hundreds of new jobs” and shows their “ongoing commitment to the UK high street”.
