Sunderland Restaurant Week 2023 – The Businesses Involved Tell You Why The Event is Vital to The Area

Written by on 2nd March 2023

Running from March 4 to March 12, Sunderland Restaurant Week is one of the most important events on Wearside’s cuisine calendar, as it provides the opportunity for some of the city’s best eateries to show off their amazing venues and menus with discounts to dine for.

Countless and varied eateries across the area, as well as pubs and bars, are all ready and waiting to welcome anyone looking to treat their taste buds, but the event is so much more than just a palette expander. It’s a vital eight days for those local businesses taking part, as they continue to grapple with post Covid-19 bounce back and a new cost of living crisis.

Organising the event are Sunderland BID (Business Improvement District), and Spark spoke to Roberta from the organisation to discuss the vibrancy and importance of the event. See what she had to say by watching the video below.

Spent Grain are a food and drink establishment you can find at 67, John Street, and they know all about the value of the event having being involved last year. We spoke to Nathan from Spent Grain who said: “Restaurant week is great for the city, it benefits both businesses and customers.

“It helps spread the word about great small businesses within the city, it also gets people out and trying restaurants they’ve never been to before.

“It was a very busy week for the restaurant (last year), with a lot of new customers coming through the doors. I mean, who doesn’t love a bargain!?”

Jolene is from Tarantino’s, a popular steakhouse which you can sink your teeth into on 4, North Bridge Street, and she too understands the fantastic benefits the event can bring, saying: “Tarantino’s took part in the 2022 Restaurant Week, and didn’t expect the success that came from it.

“The restaurant was bustling, full of new faces, with most of them returning, which is fantastic for business in the current day situation of the world.

“We cannot thank Sunderland Experience/Sunderland BID enough for the help to Sunderland businesses. We can’t wait to welcome 2023 Restaurant Week customers this year too!”
