Jill Scott was celebrated as European champion in the summer and was then crowned Queen of the Jungle yesterday.

The midfielder was born in Sunderland and spent the first two years of her professional career there.

12 million viewers tuned in on Sunday night to watch Scott take on the Rat Race challenge and then her best moments in the jungle before she was crowned Queen of the Jungle.

Mike Tindall, who had to leave the show the day before, had the honour of crowning Scott.

Jill Scott then thanked her grandmother: “I think I’m going to owe my grandma a lot of money for the 12 million votes.”

She reached the final alongside politician Matt Hancock and Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner, who finished third and second respectively.

In 2006 Scott moved to Everton where she played 114 games and won both the FA Women’s Premier League Cup and the FA Women’s Cup.

She then moved to Manchester City in 2013 where she played 111 games, was loaned back to Everton in 2021 and to Aston Villa in 2022.

Scott is probably best known for winning the 2022 Women’s EURO final against Germany, the first win for England since 1966. The following August she announced the end of her career.
