Sunderland dominantly claimed three points as a Nathan Broadhead brace ensured the home side kept the pressure on promotion rivals Morecambe.

Lee Johnson’s side had the advantage at half-time after goals from Ross Stewart and Nathan Broadhead put the Black Cats into the driving seat.

The home side continued their dominance in the second half as goals from Broadhead, Alex Pritchard and Leon Dajaku completed a comfortable night on Wearside.

Lee Johnson named an unchanged side for the second successive game, while Stephen Robinson made three changes from the side that beat Buxton 1-0 in the FA Cup.

On 13 minutes, after good work on the left from Lynden Gooch, Ross Stewart was able to poke the cross past the keeper at the front post.

Broadhead doubled Sunderland’s lead in the 17th minute after more good work from Gooch on the left, whose cross found the head of the Everton loanee in the box.

Morecambe had chances to get back into the game before halftime, however the crossbar and linesman kept the away side out.

Sunderland got their third of the game on 56 minutes, as Dan Neil cut the ball back to find Alex Pritchard who swept the ball into the goal to make it 3-0.

On 68 minutes Broadhead scored his second of the game. After getting on the end of a loose ball on the edge of the box he was able to fire a fourth goal for Sunderland into the bottom corner.

Dajaku added a fifth in the 87th minute as his deflected effort looped over the helpless goalkeeper.
