Gateshead expect delayed wages to be paid following huge takeover agreement

Written by on 13th October 2026

On Friday, October 9, Gateshead FC, known to fans as the Heed, announced that US-based investors Flacks Group had agreed a deal to buy the club.

This is exciting news for Heed fans, as the club currently sit bottom of the table with few valuable assets.

After a terrible start to the campaign with just four points from 13 games, head coach Lee Cattermole was sacked at the start of last week. A new manager has yet to be appointed but will most likely happen after the official announcement of the ownership.

To add to the disappointment it was widely reported that the players and staff had not been paid which increased frustration among the squad and the fanbase.

Then out of nowhere Gateshead announced the agreement with Flacks Group which has inspired the players as they now hope they will receive the pay they are owed.

Mark Carruthers, who covers non league football for several Reach and National World titles, said: “the investment in facilities and infrastructure is arguably the biggest part of the potential takeover.”

Many fans have been wondering why businessmen with over $7bn have chosen to invest in Gateshead and Carruthers said: “Honestly, I want proof of their intentions and a clear explanation of why they chose Gateshead because they are struggling on and off the pitch.”

The news has brought hope to the local area, as fans were worried about the club’s financial stability. Heart of the Heed, a Gateshead fan page, said the main aim should be a new stadium, followed by running the club sustainably.

Gateshead currently have many players contracted to the club, and Carruthers hopes this will be addressed under the new ownership. Better quality players could also be signed, as in recent seasons the club has relied on free transfers and loan deals.
