Tierney, McTominay and McLean send Scotland flying to the World Cup

Scotland are World Cup bound after 28 years of waiting.

Celtic defender Kieran Tierney scored what Scotland fans thought would be a last minute winner against Denmark to take The Tartan Army to the World Cup.

The left-back was subbed on in the 72’ minute and took to the right side of the pitch in favour of his usual position. Ten minutes after replacing midfielder Aaron Hickey, Tierney saw his chance to strike the ball outside the box and took it, making the score 3-2.

Tierney’s goal added to Scott McTominay’s sensational bicycle kick, and perfectly timed corner from Lewis Ferguson leading to Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland scoring in the 78th minute.

Norwich City’s Kenny McLean made the score 4-2 against the Danes with a flying shot on target from the halfway line well into extra time.

As the prospect of who Scotland could face in the World Cup draws closer, predictions are at the forefront of fans minds.

The finals draw takes place on December 5, 2025, Scotland have confirmation that pot 3 is where they will be chosen from.

Scotland will face one of hosts Mexico, Canada and USA, or one of the nine highest-ranked sides in the world from the top group of seeds.

The 48 teams that qualify for the World Cup will be sorted into groups A-L.
