Sunderland AFC release away ticket information for first European away day in over 50 years

Sunderland AFC have officially released all ticket information for the upcoming first Europa League away day in Portugal, taking on second division side Torreense.
This is one of the most anticipated ticket releases in Sunderland’s history, yet information has been released very late and had fans scratching their heads worrying about travel plans.
Sunderland normally begins ticket sales for away games four weeks prior to the event, with information being released even earlier. However, the information for this game has been posted three weeks before the match.
Sunderland announced on the 14th of September that they had received no information from the Portuguese club regarding tickets, which is what caused the delay.
Torreense club Vice president Nuno Carvalho when asked about what caused the delays had this to say, “These questions should be put to Sunderland”. So, it’s unclear to as what caused the delay for these tickets.
A further potential issue with the match day tickets is that all tickets must be collected from the Stadium in Leiria and a valid passport must be provided upon collection.
This is concerning some Sunderland fans who are worried that the name on their passport must match the name on the ticket. This could potentially mean no one can access spare tickets as the names won’t match.
Sunderland ticket office had this to say about the issue: “It is the case for the Torreense away game. You need to provide a passport ID.” Suggesting that passport checks could definitely be an issue for those fans who are using other people’s tickets.
Other information released today includes the allocation for Mackems which is a whopping 3990; this is higher than any allocation Sunderland will receive in the Premier League this season. It’s assumed that the travelling fans will sell out this allocation and turn Portugal into a sea of red and white.
Sunderland fan channel co-creator Dan, from SR4OnTour, reacted saying this: “The game in Portugal will feel like a home game for Sunderland fans with the amount were taking, it should be brilliant to see.”
