Scriptwriters invited to share their work at Sunderland Scratch

Sunderland scriptwriters will have the chance to put their work in the spotlight this week as Sunderland Scratch celebrates its tenth session at Port Independent.
The regular event, held every couple of months, gives writers of all experience levels the opportunity to share their latest scripts and receive feedback from fellow writers and audience members.
This coming Wednesday 23rd September 2026, participants can bring along their work to be read aloud, either by themselves, another writer or a member of the audience. Feedback can then be shared during a group discussion or provided through handwritten notes to be exchanged afterwards.
The point of Sunderland Scratch is to be a welcoming and cozy event for all script writers to attend with their work. They can gather an outside perspective on their writing and come away with feedback to keep pushing and developing their script. Also, having the chance to listen to other writers’ work can spark inspiration for future work.

Jay Sykes, who founded and runs Sunderland Scratch, said: “I’m a big believer in finding a critically supportive community and the benefits of sharing and critiquing work with others – so it’s an honour to provide that space for writers to share their work, hear work read aloud, receive feedback so they can continue honing their craft, and make connections along the way.”
