Major Newcastle Road Closed Following Early Morning Collision

A major section of Chillingham Road has been closed off following a collision in the early hours of the morning. The section of the road from the Chillingham Road pub to the Shields Road roundabout has been closed off. Emergency services are still on the scene, and traffic is being diverted.
The road is still closed off to the public, however a vehicle has been recovered from the scene. Commuters are advised to avoid the area, and to expect delays.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 2.15am today (Thursday) we received a report of a road traffic collision on Chillingham Road in Newcastle. Emergency services are in attendance.
“A section of the road is closed between Third Avenue and Shields Road. Motorists should use alternative routes where possible.”
