Sunderland Student Union Elections: Your last chance to vote
Written by Madyson Ciaraldi on 8th March 2024
The clock is ticking for University of Sunderland students to elect this year’s Presidents.
After a long week of rallying to get in our students’ votes, the process is due to come to an end with final votes needing to be made by 2pm March 8.
Incredible candidates across different categories are all in with a chance to represent their chosen category. All of the candidates have worked hard to promote themselves and reel in voters with their persuading manifestos.
In the running for President of Activities are Bebetto Kurudukavil Baby, Gifted Aghedo, Jayne Loo and Prince Ikechi.
President of Education will be awarded to Dawn Howe, Dola Dada or Michael Godwin Okereke.
Wellbeing President could be Bright Okoro, Godswill Unufe, Jimoh Aliyu Babantunde, Madalina Stoica, Marvelous Adenekan, Raphael Kyei Akomeah, Sarah Louise Leckenby, Serorie Egigba or Sidra Aulakh.
As well as full-time positions, there are also part-time, voluntary positions which include Equality and Diversity Officer, International Officer, Postgraduate Officer, and Chair of Union Council.
Cara Jade and Elena Cirillo are head-to-head for Equality and Diversity officer. Ashley Liddle is running for Mature and Postgraduate Officer and Ade Adeoye is running for International Officer alongside Monica Fayez Farid Towadros, Muhammad Omar Attiq Cheema and Than Thar Htet.
Frank Sverah, Marketing and Communications Manager for the SU, said: “It’s evident that students are highly interested in shaping their university experiences and bringing about the changes they would like to see.”
With over 10,000 votes cast from more than 2000 voters, the election seems to be a success so far.
As for next year, Frank Sverah said: “Our focus remains on encouraging more home students to participate in the elections. We’re committed to focusing our efforts on expanding our outreach in the coming year.”
All voters are also in with a chance of winning an iPad, a free night out courtesy of Independent, or a UoS merch bundle worth around £100.
The election results will take place on March 13 from 18:30 at City Space, Sunderland.
