Figure skaters from Newcastle University brought a dose of Christmas cheer to Life’s open-air ice rink.

The skaters from Newcastle University’s Figure Skating Society took to the ice rink in Times Square, Newcastle to perform a routine to the fifties festive classic, ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’.

Life’s outdoor ice rink, an established part of the festive calendar in the city, welcomed its first skaters at the weekend. The rink, which is made of real ice, will run throughout the festive season, providing skaters of all ages and abilities with the ultimate festive experience.

And to officially mark the opening, members of the skating society performed a dazzling display on the ice.

Anouk Nesbit, president of Newcastle University’s Figure Skating Society, said: “Our society was very excited to skate at Life’s ice rink and we all had a great time skating outdoors.

“It was amazing to start the winter period in such a festive way!”

The opening of the ice rink signals the start of Life’s Christmas programme inside the centre, which includes a new magical 360-degree animated dome show, What Santa Sees; a thrilling live show where fire burns underwater; experiments to track down Secret Santa; decoration making and much more!
