The National Glass Centre in Sunderland set to close after 25 years

Written by on 5th May 2023

The National Glass Centre is set to close after 25 years of service due to reported health and safety issues regarding the structure of the building.

Approximately 230,000 people visit the centre per year and it is one of the major family attractions in the area.

Through the education of Sunderland’s history and industrial heritage, the centre has become a vital part of the local community but may be forced into a change of location in order to carry on their good work.

A petition to keep the National Glass Centre on Sunderland’s riverside has recently been launched in an attempt to prove its worth to the community.

Currently over 27,000 people have signed the petition, but as it stands there seems to be no saving of the National Glass Centre.
