Sunderland band Vandebilt were a shining light at Waves Festival last weekend and have surely bagged themselves a headline slot for 2023.

The Sunderland four piece played their pop, funk and house sounds at a rammed Fire Station; added to the roster of venues this year.

The band’s set was stacked with hits. Nothing they played was wide of the mark and the energy was sustained from beginning to end. I Got What You Need bled seamlessly into Dream In Colour to create an almost 10 minute groove. As expected, Baby received a rapturous reception.

The natural peak of the 30 minute set was fan favourite Diana Ross. The crowd sang the track’s looping, infectious hook of a chorus over and over again, demanding a further reprise that didn’t come. One mark is taken off for this disappointment.

Other bands and artists did their best to rival what Vandebilt did, but nobody came close during the festival.
