North East Preparing For Qatar Fifa World Cup

England’s World Cup squad have landed in Qatar.

Yesterday Gareth Southgate and his 26-man squad landed in Doha, capital of Qatar, ahead of this years Fifa World Cup.


Fans across the region are preparing for glory after England’s performance in the UEFA Euro 2020 competition.

England played Italy in the final but were beat in the penalty shoot out after drawing 1-1.

Local resident and bar worker Sadie, 19, told us: “I am so excited for the World Cup to kick off in Qatar. The buzz is going to be great and I can not wait for all of the celebrations to get going.”

Fans following England’s journey took to social media to share their thoughts.

One Twitter user @muiniofficial commented: “Let’s GO England… you got this.”

@ThatGingerRob said: “Excitement is building” and he is “already preparing the England flag wrapped Christmas decorations.”

Not everyone has such high expectations for the tournament. One twitter user said: “Keep the engines running lads, we won’t be long.”

The World Cup kicks off this Sunday as Qatar take on Ecuador and England play their first match on Monday afternoon against Iran.

Viewers can catch all of the action from England’s opening group stage fixture on the BBC at 1pm.
