This month sees Sunderland host both The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018 and the 30th Sunderland Airshow and a ‘Pop up’ Seafront Summer Village is set to keep everyone happy both during and between these occasions.
The village runs every day from Friday 13 to Sunday 29 July at the former Pullman Lodge site. Joining two of the largest free public events in in the region this year, the village is planned to have something for everyone’s taste.
“This is a great way to link two magnificent events. This year, not only does Sunderland host the Iconic Tall Ships Races, we also look forward to the 30th anniversary of our Airshow too.
“With recent cultural developments, music festivals, family running and cycling events along with the inspiring range of local, national and international entertainment coming to The Tall Ships Races, Sunderland truly is an event city and I hope everyone takes advantage of these fantastic opportunities here on their doorstep.” said, Sunderland City Council Portfolio Holder for Communities and Culture, Councillor John Kelly.
The Summer Village will host food concessions, a bar and an outside seating area to help visitors enjoy Sunderland’s award-winning seafront. There will also be a funfair providing a variety of traditional family rides, children’s rides, adult rides, inflatables and side stalls in nearby Ocean Park.
There will also be a ‘Seaburn Summer Takeover’ with organisers making full use of the pop up village during the weekend of 20 to 22 of July to host a feast of live music events and open mic sessions.
Organiser of the Summer Village, Oliver Bennett added; “It’s really exciting to be involved in such high profile events in Sunderland, we are looking to showcase the best food, drinks and music from the north east, all with the stunning backdrop of Seaburn beach front.”
