Newcastle Arena have announced the introduction of new security measures including walk through metal detectors for future events at the venue.
The walk through metal detectors will replace the current manual scanning procedure with the aim to increase security but also to increase the speed of entry for visitors.
The new detectors are being installed this week ahead of Katy Perry on Monday 25th June where they’ll be in action for the first time.
The move comes after just over a year since four people from the North East were among 22 killed at Manchester Arena when a bomb was detonated at the end of Ariana Grande’s concert.
“The detectors are quick and simple to use and will be a welcome development to further define the venue security, enhancing the customer experience and ease of entry into the venue with guest safety at the forefront of everything we do.” – Metro Radio Arena Statement
The metal detector arches will be positioned externally and staff will also carry out vehicle and ticket checks upon arrival to the venue.
Visitors are also to leave leave all backpacks (including small handbag fashion types) and large bags at home and just to bring what you need to have a great time at the Arena.
Continuing to work closely with local and national experts and authorities the Arena say they are consistently reviewing and implementing visible and non-visible approaches to ensure the safety of every guest to the venue.
