Harry’s Game Shack in Sunderland is hosting a 12 hour charity gameathon later this month to raise money and awareness for Sunderland Alzheimer’s Society.
Found above Geeky’s in Sunderland City Centre, the gameathon at Harry’s Game Shack will take place on Saturday 23rd June, with participants gaming solidly from 8pm until 8am the following morning, all in aid of Sunderland Alzheimer’s Society.
Alzheimer’s Society, provides information and support to people with dementia, their families and carers.
Services that they provide in Sunderland are a Dementia Support Worker, Peer Support groups, Carers’ meetings, Dementia Cafes, Befriending Service, Singing for the Brain and a Day Support Centre.
Rob Davison, Owner of Geeky’s and Harry’s Game Shack said supporting this particular organisation was important.
“We are very aware of the difficulties of living with dementia, and this is a cause very dear to my heart. My mother has Alzheimer’s, and I know how hard it can be seeing a loved one go through this debilitating disease, and the difficulty in getting help to look after them.“ – Rob Davison, Harry’s Game Shack
Entry to the gameathon was £10 per person, and is already fully booked. All entry fees will go to Sunderland Alzheimer’s Society. Each person taking part has also been given a sponsor form to collect their own sponsorship money.
Harry’s Game Shack is hoping that each participant will manage to raise a minimum of £50 each with their sponsorship forms. If everyone achieves that, combined with the entry costs, they will have raised at least £1320.
Rob added that he’s been a long supporter of the Sunderland Alzheimer’s Society.
“I’ve previously done numerous sponsored runs to raise money for them myself, and we’re confident that this Gameathon will be another brilliant way to raise money and awareness of Sunderland Alzheimer’s Society and all the amazing work that they do.” – Rob Davison, Harry’s Game Shack
Despite the gameathon being fully booked, people are being encouraged to sponsor anyone they know taking part in the gameathon, or they can pop into Geeky’s or Harry’s Game Shack to make a donation in their charity bucket.
