Local leisure centre in the running for top industry award

A local leisure centre is celebrating after being told it is in the running to receive a top industry award.

Silksworth Sports Complex, which is managed by Everyone Active on behalf of Sunderland City Council,has been shortlisted for Centre of the Year at the ukactive Active Uprising Awards (formerly the Flame Awards) – one of the sports and leisure sector’s most prestigious events.

The centre has been shortlisted in recognition of the vast range of facilities on offer to the local community, which provide something to encourage everyone to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle, regardless of age or ability.

Ian Bradgate, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “I am delighted that Silksworth has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award. All our colleagues work hard to deliver fantastic facilities and services and it is brilliant to have been recognised in this way.

Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Communities and Culture, said: “It’s fantastic to see Silksworth shortlisted for centre of the year. It’s a real tribute to the range of activities and services on offer to local people and the dedication of the staff who work so hard to deliver them.”

In total, Everyone Active has achieved 12 short listings across six categories at the Active Uprising Awards. The winners being announced at an event held on Thursday 21 June.

The sports and leisure operator will be hoping to repeat its success of previous years, where it has taken home multiple accolades including the converted Operator of the Year Award.
