People right across Sunderland are preparing to get active and raise money all in aid of Sports Relief.

CitySpace at the University of Sunderland is supporting the cause by staying open for 24hrs this Friday (23 March).

Access to the gym, Fitness Classes and Sports Hall will be free – with the hope that those using the facilities will make a small donation for Sport Relief.

The centre are also planning a mass Zumba session at 8pm – hoping it could be the biggest and best dance class in the City.

The CitySpace team have also been travelling the distance from London to Paris – by running the equivalent djsta to Calais on our treadmills, then rowing across the Channel on the SkillRow, finishing off the final leg with the exercise bikes to the French capital.

People across Sunderland are being urged to join the Sports Relief One Billion Steps campaign.

Many of the city’s primary and secondary schools will be holding non-uniform day’s, bake sales and more to raise money.

Local personality and former Apprentice star Katie Bunker Cooke wants the city as whole to clock up 200,000 Steps using her team Step Up Sunderland.

As a Sport Relief Regional Champion, Katie wrote on her website asking those to join and raise money “I’m trying to get as many people to get involved as possible.”

And there’s still time to donate and clock up some steps ahead of Sport Relief on BBC One tomorrow night.

Sainsbury stores across Sunderland and the country are behind the campaign again this year.

Stores are selling the various mechanise including water bottles, pin badges and wristbands.

Meanwhile, University of Sunderland’s CitySpace has recently undergone refurbishment, with brand new state of the art Technogym equipment in the new Fitness Suite.
