Sunderland firm creates Salted Caramel Gin Sausage

Stirks Butchers in Sunderland, have partnered up with local gin distillery Poetic License to create a ‘Pork, Apple and Salted Caramel Gin Sausage.’

Together they have come up with this “interesting” combination to celebrate National Butchers week (12th – 18th March).

It’s not the first time the butchers have put together some interesting sausage combos, having previously produced the ‘Borini’ sausage for footballer Fabio Borini.

The special creation for the Italian forward, who’s on loan to AC Milan from Sunderland, included mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil.

Meanwhile a pork, black pudding and Guinness sausage was also created for Irish footballer for John O’Shea who also plays for Sunderland.

Striks also claim firm favourites among their customers are also the sweet chilli and Irn-Bru sausage and their Whitley Neill rhubarb and ginger gin sausage.

Speaking about the new sausage addition owner, John Stirk said; “We are very passionate about creating new products and are delighted to have been able to partner with Poetic License Distillery.”

“We sell their fantastic range of gins in our pub, so it only felt natural to collaborate and create this new sausage.”

“We’re quite well known for our weird and wacky creations at Stirks and wanted to raise the bar for National Butchers week.”

After the success of their two stores based in Grangetown and Fulwell and also have recently opened their own Steakhouse.

The company has the largest following on social media of an independent company within the North East, with their likes on Facebook at just over a staggering 60k.
