Warming up for a Great Run of Events

Written by on 14th March 2018

Everyone is being encouraged to take part or show support for some fantastic running events in Sunderland over the next few months.

Starting on Sunday 18 March with a duathlon along the fantastic seafront organised by Suncity Triathlon Club and running up to July where Washington will host a Suncity Triathlon event, there will be runs covering distances, disciplines and routes that will suit everyone. The planned runs will cover many areas of the city, from the seafront to Washington and the city centre too.

Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health Wellness and culture said: “Sunderland is a really vibrant and ambitious city. Each year there are dozens of events planned by a whole range of clubs, societies, organisations and of course the city council.

With everything from sports and activities to cultural offerings and signature events such as Sunderland Airshow and this year’s’ jewel in the crown’, The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018, it really is an event programme to be proud of.”

The Run Sunderland Festival which takes place on May 13 includes the Siglion City 10k and half marathon, and the Active Sunderland BIG 3k Fun Run and is planned to attract participants at every level of running fitness.

Sunderland city council’s Head of Events Victoria French said: “It is fantastic to see just how many sporting events are planned for the city each year. As a council we are dedicated to supporting and promoting the delivery of some fantastic activities and I encourage everyone to find out more and take part.

“In addition to all the sport and activity events I’m sure there will be something to cater for everyone’s tastes, from egg rolling to obstacle courses, and illuminations to music festivals there is plenty to see and do in Sunderland.”
