Written by Spark on 7th March 2018
Today (Thursday 8th March) is International Women’s Day (IWD) and Spark’s continuing in its traditions to fight for gender equality.
International Women’s Day is an annual movement committed to challenging conscious and unconscious bias, calling for gender parity and valuing women and men’s contributions equally.
In 2018, there’s a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress balanced leadership, with IWD 2018 theme of #PressforProgress.
Throughout the day on Spark we’ll also be celebrating successful women in the North East, with a particular focus on women’s success in fields usually dominated by men.
Guests lined up for today include Washington and Sunderland West MP Sharon Hodgson, Holly Knowler from the Atlas Theatre Company and Donna Yeoman Chair of SunnyCon Anime Expo.
We’ve also got reporters at the Hope Street Exchange in Sunderland attending an International Women’s Day conference.
While from 12pm-2pm Spark Daytime with Tyler Selby will be coming to you from the conference talking with guests and speakers who push for gender equality.
We’ll also be celebrating female music with an extra focus on female bands and artists including our local music all female playlist for March.
While, Sunderland band Picnic will be live on DriveTime, fresh from performing at the opening of the new Fire Station in front of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Join Spark all day as we celebrate women, gender equality and together push for progress.
