WEATHER: Friday’s Snow Disruptions

Snow and winter weather continues to cause travel disruption today (Friday 2nd March) as Storm Emma brings strong winds combined with the cold and snow from the ‘Beast from the East’
This is how things looked at 6:15pm on Friday 2nd March, any major updates after will be tweeted out @SparkSunderland.
On the Metro, trains are running to an emergency timetable with a 30 minute frequency on both lines.

Stagecoach in Sunderland have confirmed many of their services remain diverted today however all services are operating.
Sun Ops: Due to the ongoing horrendous weather and road conditions we still have some services which will unfortunately have to use a diversion.

The diversions in place are as follows:
- Service 3: Unable to serve Hylton Castle terminus and will divert Ferryboat lane.
- Service 8: Unable to service South Hylton, so will terminate at the top of Hylton Road in Pennywell. It is also omitting Killingworth Drive and Cleveland Road around High Barnes.
- Service 10: Unable to service Westheath Avenue and will divert straight up and down Queen Alexandra Road.
- Service 23: Unable to serve Alston Crescent around Fulwell.
Go North East have said they hope to be operating services into the evening tonight with last buses at their usual times.

Meanwhile some Go North East service remain diverted in places across Sunderlsnd.
Here’s the latest information on diversions:
- Services 20/20A: Diverted via Newbottle and Grassmere due to the A690 closure at Houghton Cut.
- Service 35/35A – Boldon Bank/Hylton Lane is closed so buses are operating via Downhill Lane. Also unable to serve Low Moorsley, Hetton Downs or Eppleton with services using Hetton Road and terminating at Hetton Interchange.
- Service 39: Unable to serve Pennywell Estate, buses are turning on Chester Road at Grindon Mill.
- Service X6/X7: Normal route except between Ryhope and Seaham due to high winds and damaged lighting columns. Buses are diverting via Ryhope Road and Stockton Road in both directions.
Grand Central Trains have confirmed they’re running limited services today, below’s tweet has details of services which are running today.

On the Northern train service between Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, trains are operating although maybe some delays.
Ticket restrictions on all Northern services today have been lifted, you are advised to check the latest information on individual services before you travel,

Road Disruptions – this is the latest road news:
- Tunstall Hope Road is Closed in both directions.
- Burdon Lane is Closed in both directions due to difficult driving conditions.
- Boldon Bank is shut too on Hylton Lane in both directions.
- A690 Durham Road between A19 and Houghton Cut is closed.
- Southern Relief Route (A1018 coast road) remains closed between Ocean Road and Salterfen Road. Six street lights came down overnight yesterday. Traffic is being diverted via Ryhope Road.
Our school closure map will not be updated until Sunday evening, once schools start informing us either way if their open or shut for Monday 5th March.
