Sunderland Ladies are preparing to host Aston Villa as they return to Cup action this weekend.

The Wearsiders are hopeful of carrying momentum through to their home ground, Mariners Park, this Sunday after beating Bristol City in league action last weekend as they look to progress in the FA Cup as they play in the FA Cup Fifth Round.

The Black Cats eased into the Fifth Round following a dominant win against Brighouse Town Ladies in the Fourth Round with the side netting 13 goals and hat-tricks coming from Captain Lucy Staniforth and debutant Mollie Lambert, both securing their first senior hat-tricks for the side.

The Ladies have beaten Aston Villa previously having played them earlier this season in Continental Cup action winning 3-1 however they face a bigger task this round hosting The Villans as the opposition comfortably beat Middlesbrough 4-0 in the previous round of the FA Cup.

Captain Lucy Staniforth spoke about getting a hat-trick in the previous round.

“It was a good feeling; I’ve never got a senior hatrick before so that was pretty cool.”

Sunderland AFC Ladies head into this Sunday’s game with a run of form on their side having won three out of their last four games

Lucy also spoke about heading into the game at the weekend.

“We’re on a bit of a run at the minute, we’ve got some confidence… and we’ll be looking to go into that game and progress to the next round.

Sunderland AFC Ladies take on Aston Villa on Sunday 18 February at Mariners Park, South Shields. Kick-Off is at 2pm.
